Project Manager

The Role

We’re looking for a Project Manager to take the lead on one of our most significant accounts!

Your primary focus will be a long-running engagement with a nationally-recognized nonprofit. It’s one of our largest accounts, with several development pipelines running side by side, and stakeholders across the organization. You’ll be their primary contact and in charge of directing our team to tackle their needs as they evolve.

This is as much an account management role as a project management one. You’ll own the relationship day to day, stay ahead of where the client’s needs are heading, and work with our CEO on the strategic side of the account.

Responsibilities include:

  • Own delivery from kickoff through execution and closure
  • Maintain timelines and milestones, keep budgets on track, and review invoices
  • Run standups, coordinate handoffs, and keep work moving between designers, developers, and QA
  • Serve as the day-to-day client contact, translating technical decisions so stakeholders understand progress and trade-offs
  • Perform discovery, requirements gathering, stakeholder interviews, and user research when called for
  • Write-up scoping documentation, estimates, and craft recommendations
  • Work with our team to manage incoming requests, backlogged issues, and help the client roadmap future work
  • Track utilization and budget against scope, surface variances, and recommend adjustments before they become problems
  • Partner with the CEO on account strategy, resourcing, and larger bodies of work

What a Week Actually Looks Like

  • Daily: standups with the project team, and client communication via email, Slack, and calls
  • Weekly: standing check-ins with client stakeholders, timesheet and invoicing review, and a sit-down with the CEO on resource needs, account direction, and budget utilization
  • Ongoing: triaging incoming requests with the team, working through the backlog, and keeping status updates and decision records current
  • As needed: discovery sessions, stakeholder interviews, and new scoping documents and estimates

What kinds of problems are we solving?

Some of our recent projects include:

  • Redeveloping a fundraising portal for a large nationally-recognized nonprofit
  • Overhauling a complex in-app messaging system
  • Creating and expanding features for a company-owned subscription-based product
  • Scaling a package booking flow for a successful sport tour booking company

Qualifications

Strong candidates will have:

  • 2-5 years of project management experience, ideally in an agency or client services setting
  • Experience managing client relationships directly
  • Comfort running projects staffed with developers and designers, and enough technical fluency to follow heady conversations and ask the right questions
  • A track record of managing concurrent scopes, budgets, and timelines
  • Strong writing and communication skills
  • Familiarity with tools like Linear, Notion, Harvest, Slack, and Google Workspace, or the ability to pick them up quickly

Ideally, we’d also love candidates with:

  • Some hands-on development background (even a little)
  • Experience running discovery and requirements gathering
  • Nonprofit, academia, or healthcare client experience
  • Familiarity with accessibility standards and WCAG compliance
  • An eye for good UX design

Traits We Look for in Our Teammates

  • A natural desire to help others
  • Kindness, curiosity, humility, and good humor
  • A knack for problem solving
  • A keen eye for detail and a sense of what makes a website or application great
  • Solid organizational skills and the ability to move between tasks easily
  • Ability to zoom out and think proactively
  • Ability to explain technical work in plain language
  • Willingness to learn, own mistakes, take feedback, and grow
