Building a successful website involves a lot of different pieces coming together – design, content, functionality, and more. One important piece that is often overlooked is market research. Market research helps us understand our clients and their target audience. It also helps us identify potential problems and solutions. Without it, we would be blindly building a website and hoping for the best.

Do not skip market research in your web development process – it's worth the investment and can save you from many headaches down the line. Trust us, your audience (and your wallet) will thank you.

French Fry Tour of Burlington: Handy’s Lunch

December 19, 2022

A basket of french fries with a small plastic container of ketchup in the top right corner.

Handy’s Lunch calls themselves “A great place to eat” since 1945.

Bluehouse Group recently tried Handy’s Lunch french fries and we were extremely disappointed. They lacked crispiness and were tasteless. These fries had absolutely no color. In addition, these fries were served pretty cold, which only added to their disappointing texture.

We scored these fries a 6.4 / 10. Check in every Monday for our next local french fry review!

AI and the Job Search

December 19, 2022

In the past few months, we have seen new and creative ways that people are using AI to assist in the job search process, offering benefits for both employers and job seekers. Job seekers are leveraging natural language tools, such as ChatGPT, to create personalized résumés, LinkedIn posts, and cover letters to save time in the application process. They are also using AI image tools to generate professional-looking LinkedIn profile photos in formal attire.

Employers are also leveraging these tools to improve the résumé review process and talent search. LinkedIn has already begun providing these AI tools to employers.

There are both pros and cons to using AI in the job search process. On one hand, AI can make the job process more efficient and effective, helping employers find qualified candidates and helping job seekers find more opportunities. On the other hand, there are some ethical concerns, such as biased AI and possible discrimination by AI.

Is it fair to use AI for hiring decisions, or should those decisions always be made by people?

Elliot’s Ideas: Talking to Birds

December 16, 2022

A goose looking directly into the camera, making a funny face with its beak open.

Imagine being able to walk through a forest and have a conversation with the birds. It’s possible with the help of thousands of Raspberry Pies hooked up to microphones sitting in people's bird boxes. We can use machine learning algorithms to analyze the sounds of different bird species and create a database of recognizable sounds.

We could then use the database to create an app that would be able to identify the sounds made by individual birds and even create its own responses based on the sounds it has learned.

Over time, the app would be able to understand the vocalizations of different bird species, and their regional dialect (if this exists in birds) and even engage in simple conversations with them.
